a charlie party

For my little Charlie's 4th birthday, we all took a trip to Wendy's for a special treat. If the truth be told, the kids could care less about the actual kid's meals-- what they're really interested in is the toy inside. I mean, it doesn't matter what the toy is-- my kids want it. And not only that, it could be the cheapest, lamest toy you could imagine and they would still think its great. I've tried to tell them on several occasions that for the same price, I could take them all to Target and buy some cool little toys. But they insist on kids' meals instead. After lots of birthday wishes, dribbling ketchup on the shirts, and a spilled Sprite, we headed off to Toys R Us. A Mommy, a Daddy, and 7 little dwarfs. This was going to be a new experience for all of us-- having the birthday boy actually pick his own presents. Charlie had a blast birthday shopping; We told him to pick anything he wanted (within reason, of course). But he was so busy touching, turning and poking at toys, he never picked anything. We had to do a little prompting and encouraging... How about this? What about that? Which one do you like more? And so on. What an easy 4 year old to please, REALLY! He ended up settling on a Narnia sword, Playmobile pirate ship and 2 scary transformers. We still have a family Disneyland trip in the works for the ultimate birthday finale for Charlie. I think I'm more excited than the Cupcakes. Mommy's favorite place too, I might add!

Happy Birthday to your little Charlie....What a fun adventure, and a great idea to have the little guy pick his own gifts. You know he'll love them that way! :-)

Have a wonderful weekend.

Blessings,
Spencer

We do something similar for each birthday: We take out ONLY that child who's birthday it is, because hey, how often do they get individual attention like an only child? And we go get something to eat, and then go to Toys R Us or the like to let them pick out their gifts. I LOVE getting to be with that child out of our normal element and spend that one on one time with them. One of our children in particular is very rambunctious and difficult on an everyday basis. However, when we went out just the three of us, that child was so much fun and well behaved....it was soooo nice to see that side of them!

I also like the fact that I don't "mess up" their gift this way, by picking out something they wouldn't like to have. It's VERY stress-relieving! :D

Ah Toys R Us...I can still take my daughter there just for the fun of it and she doesn't insist that I buy her something...kind of like going to the zoo...she doesn't get it...YET...she's only 2

looks like a really fun birthday! We love playmobil at our house, great choice! We have a narnia sword, too!

happy meals drive me a little nuts, too..they are a rare treat here, it's usually more in the budget to get something to go, have all the kids share it and have drinks at home. :)
