My little friend Ruby just turned 5 months old. She once had the undesirable habit of not napping during the day. In fact, if you remember, she never ever took naps... really. But the hidden blessing was that she did sleep through the night, all night. Very Nice. At first, it seemed like a fortunate turn of events when my sweet ,healthy baby girl miraculously started to take those much needed {by Mommy} daytime naps. The unfortunate flip side to this was that since she became more rested, she began to wake up occasionally for a midnight snack and some late night cuddling. I'm not sure what the real reason is-- food or comfort because she seems to love both tremendously.

But recently I found myself grumbling about her new nighttime escapades. After seeking God about it, I've decided to choose to embrace it and really appreciate the time to snuggle and feed my round, plumpy, happy, and squishy baby. I realized that this is, in fact, a wonderful privilege; It is what I am called to do. What else could I possibly be doing that is more profound and rewarding even if means sacrificing my much loved sleep.

I'd rather be sleep-deprived and the mother of my child than be well-rested with empty arms. I love being little red headed Ruby's Mommy-- even if she can scream extremely loud, has a bit of a temper and decides to wake up a whole bunch right now.

You are 100% right, there is NOTHING more vital than loving on those babies while you can.

I have been struggling a bit with this same issue...although my sweet girl is 14 months! but. like you, I keep praying with gratitude that I can get up with her, and I treasure the snuggle time (or at least TRY to) b/c my almost 16 yr old does NOT want to snuggle. (although, most of the time the feeling might be mutual...who's to say. :o) )
This is my first time commenting, but I have been reading your blog for a while. I really enjoy reading another person's crazy life...we have 5 kids ourselves. :o) I never knew I would love big families!!

Oh my gosh...she's a doll. Makes me want another one! My baby is 16months old already! Time goes by so quickly, doesn't it? We have 9 children mostly because I'm addicted to the babies, LOL. I can't imagine life without a baby on my hip!

God bless you with all your little ones!
