road trip

It all started with a 8 1/2 hour trip to bible conference. Children, a pregnant mommy, a chauffeur daddy-- all ready to go. Glorious. We left at 3:30 in the morning van loaded. We were going to be refreshed, revived and ready for fellowship. 11 cousins were all going to be at the same hotel in the same pool attending the same children's church productions.

When we arrived, I was extremely happy with the accommodations: a 2 bedroom suite with a full kitchen. In years past at other hotels, we've arrived to find that the arrangements we made were not at all like the pictures... In this case, however, everything was clean and perfect-- setting my mind at ease for a 6 night stay. I now know what my favorite hotel is to stay at with 7 little children.

The place was packed with family and friends attending the conference. It was perfect. Church in the morning, lunch, pool all day, dinner, church in the evening and cereal for late night snacks.

Some people schedule their yearly calendar around the fiscal year or the academic year, but our calendar runs from conference to conference not from January to December.

We have such a great time at conference that our children usually ask us to stay longer, and at least one of them begins to cry when the reality of returning home sets in. Before we even leave the parking lot for the trip home, someone asks how long it's gonna be until we come back.

We were on the road with the kids already comfortable and on our way home when......

7 kids in one hotel room- now that's a feat! And it looks like they had a blast!

As I write this, I am in my room for OUR campmeeting that we go to twice a year. My kids LOVE campmeetings, and wish they could go "all year long!" We travelled 12 hours to get here, and you would never know it was 6 kids and one Mama doing the trip--the kids were soooo good. I guess we all just really look forward to all the goodness that comes with "God Vacations" ;)
