In the garden on the side of the house, we planted pumpkins-- however, our 'patch' only produced one.
In an attempt to get our one lone pumpkin all the nutrients possible, I asked my oldest son to cut back the unproductive vines. Although he said 'yes' he'd do it, I was so impatient that I went out myself and went crazy with the clippers.
Of course, I would be careful after telling my son NOT to cut the wrong vine.
And so it was that I became the "worst" mom in the world with the first vine that I cut-- I had clipped the pumpkin's lifeline. I wanted to crawl into a hole and hide. How humbling and embarrassing!
