A Flame.

Last night we had our candlelight service at church.

As always, the lighted candles in the hands of the congregation was beautiful and the message touched me-- even while wrestling 3 children under the age of 4 and River in my arms.

There were several munchkins who were NOT allowed to hold a lit candle or anything involving fire for that matter. But I did give them each a candle nonetheless.

The trouble was that a few of them were trying to go Prometheus on me and steal some fire from someone else.

Even scarier was the thought that they might accidentally light the completely dried out and dead Christmas tree that we were sitting in front of. Yikes!

This year my word is Hope.

Hope in a God who brings joy.

Strips away hardened hearts.

And changes me from ways I no longer want to struggle with.

A God who has blessed me with His grace.

I have been reading "One Thousand Gifts" by Ann Voskamp.

I love what she wrote toward the end of her book:
'I am a flame to light other flames'.

O God, help me to be a flame of warmth and light to my family.
