Jasper: Treasure Holder

I need to back track a little here for the sake of recording memories...

Last November 11th (11-11-13), Jasper turned 3 years old.

This little guy was really excited after a long year of waiting for his birthday to finally come. He had to endure eleven months of seeing his brothers & sisters celebrate theirs.

He would ask almost daily if it was his birthday.

And when we would sing happy birthday to other kids, he would insist that we sing to him too and say it was his birthday. So we went along and added happy birthday for Jasper.

When I have to describe this little person, I struggle for words because I don’t think there are many that can describe this super-extraordinary little guy.

I don’t think I have ever met anyone near like him. (I know that parents like to exaggerate about their kid’s abilities, but I think I’m fairly well qualified to say what’s unusual being that I’m comparing him to his 7 older siblings who all have strengths of their own.)

He is extremely perceptive and sponge-like in his ability to watch, then do. He is not satisfied being a spectator-- we have to keep our shed locked because of him. Everything from him tuning up the lawnmower and spray painting the bushes and back wall to climbing a ten foot ladder up to the tree house at one year old even though we removed the bottom two rungs of the ladder.

He loves big and he gets mean big. We had to teach him early on the difference between ‘Nice’ and ‘Not Nice’ with a rather vivid description.

He got hit with a shovel in the mouth the other day accidentally by an oblivious six year old working in the garden. His lip was split wide open-- Chris’ first words to me were, “We have to go to the emergency room.”

To put it into perspective, in all our years of having children Chris has never said that. His words have always been, “It’s okay, they’ll be alright. They don’t need stitches.”

To make a long story short, Jasper stopped crying almost immediately and let me put a big bandage and strip of tape across his face without complaint-- it was as if nothing had happened. (We did take him to urgent care where the doctor opted not to stitch him.)

He sets the table, makes waffles, organizes the bookcase, and drives his brothers to practice. Ha! This is the boy we call Jasper. Seriously.

Isaiah 33:6
He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.

He is adorable Wendy. I feel like such a lurker here when I know so much about your family after reading about them for years and you know nothing about me but know that I love your family, your passion for Christ, your joy in the simple and your excitement to see what God will do next. Jasper is adorable.
